“Still I Rise”
Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” poem was made to let people know that she never looks down on anything. She is very confident about herself. Maya Angelou was born in Missouri. Her birthday was April 4, 1928. She marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. she’s an author, poet, a dancer, song writer, and a lot more. She was the first black director in Hollywood. Maya is best known for her autobiographical books.
Maya Angelou uses hyperbole and metaphors in her poem. She says them to get the readers attention about her not worrying about what other people say and that she is very sure about herself. This is a line in her poem that describes her overcoming a past situation: “Leaving behind nights of terror and fear , I rise”. The reader should be able to tell she’s had problems and she forgave and forgot them.
The poem “Still I Rise” has a lot of rhyming in it. She uses ABCB rhyming. She says I rise after almost every stanza. She has good vocabulary in the poem and she speaks on the truth. The poem also tells her past and present . You can tell she has been sad/mad and made a big turn around to being happy.
The poem makes me feel good about myself. I think everybody should think like Maya does. She has high self-esteem. The poem lets people know that no matter what happened in your past, you can still be a happy person. I can relate to what she’s saying in her poem because that’s the way I feel about myself. I don’t let nobody bring me down.
I believe this poem was very good and understanding. I think Maya achieved her goal in letting people know how she feels. This poem most likely got through to many people that had the same problem she did. Her poem help those people overcome their past
